OUR FOUNDER / PRESIDENT

Greetings and Welcome to BULLDOG Sports and Fitness Inc!

Thank you for your interest in the upcoming season. I would like to provide you with some information regarding myself (Founder & President since 2009), our approach towards the game of flag football, and the plan for our teams for the upcoming season.

My first love as a 10 year old was football.  After 20 years of my life playing through Pop Warner, high school, and collegiately and now 18 years coaching, the opportunity to pass on some of what I’ve learned along the way to the next generation has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

This season will be my 18th year coaching youth sports & fitness, in particular football.  I began my coaching career in the year 2002 as head Freshman coach at Serra while simultaneously interning as an assistant to the overall football program in the athletic department.  After four years at Serra, I moved on to assisting in the athletic department at the College of San Mateo.  These internships sparked my passion to run my own Sports & Fitness programs, and pushed me into pursuing a Masters Degree in, you guessed it, Kinesiology  Sports and Fitness Management, (minor in exercise phys.).  This was the foundation of Bulldog Sports & Fitness Inc. & Bulldog Flag Football, and my “first baby” Bulldog Gym in Menlo Atherton!

I am very passionate about the game of football and especially the process that goes along with

preparing for competition.  Developing player skills, bonding a strong and united team, and developing good work ethic during practices and games is what it’s all about!

It is my belief that, as the coach, it is our role to ensure that all of this can be achieved while having fun along the way. Our philosophy is that “fun” is when a team of players buys into the teaching of Sportsmanship,Teamwork, and Leadership, and plays unselfishly, THEN let’s go intensely compete. Now THAT'S fun!

The objectives for our teams will be focused on:

*building confidence

*self-esteem

*discipline

*sense of commitment and pride

*Learn to deal with adversity

*learn to compete

These personality traits and qualities will benefit them at whatever level they play.

We emphasize development over winning....

It is the coaches responsibility to help the kids develop strong skills, challenge them, and have them identify individual and team goals.

It is the player’s responsibility to begin thinking critically as it applies to their performance in practices and games to identify areas for improvement as well as areas of strength both as an individual and as a member of the team. I expect nothing less than their very best effort at all times and this combined with being the best unselfish team mate they can, is very important. It is important to have the kids prepared and ready to play, and at this age they need to be working on their core skills and applying them as a team.

I'm expecting that all of the boys/girls coming out to the practices / games will come with high energy and hard working attitude!

Love & Health,

Coach Law

FOR PARENTS

Welcome to flag football! Thank you for entrusting your child to us.

To help us work best together in supporting your child, please review the following:

  1. You have laid a strong foundation for your child. Thank you! As parents, we know how hard you work at that every day. At Bulldog Football, you are now a FAN, no longer a coach! We know this can be the hardest pill to swallow but while you are on the sidelines during practices and games, please refrain from coaching your child. Your job is to support, cheer, and encourage. If you coach from the sidelines it can confuse your child, confuse the team, and interfere with our game strategy. Your support of your child and of our coaches means everything to us.

  2. Trust is vital.  When your child starts competing for a coach, trust that the coach is skilled in getting the job done the correct way. Yes, there are times that you are going to disagree with the coach’s decisions. But trust us that we are looking out for the good of your child and the team!

  3. Remember, there is an overall team goal within each sport as well as goals for each individual child. Sometimes the team goals may conflict with your goals for your child. That’s ok and it’s good for your child to understand.

  4. We understand that as coaches, respect is earned. We work hard to earn that trust and respect.

  5. We really enjoy your child! If we didn’t like kids, we would not do what we do. It is also our job to hold them accountable to themselves, the team, and the coaches. Sometimes that involves raising our voice or some other consequence (e.g., lessening of playing time). This is never personal and only used when necessary.

  6. As a coach, it is our job to build on the foundation that has been set for your children in their homes and schools. We teach them character, respect, integrity, accountability and trust. When children learn these attributes from parents and teachers and coaches, they carry them with them for life and become integral parts of our society. We are molding your child not just for the football field but to be great friends, parents, husbands/wives, employers/employees, etc.

When we work together, the process and growth is so rewarding for everyone! As coaches, the relationships that we make with children and families means more than any championship that we may win. Thank you for entrusting your children to us!
